WWANC CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

The Organization joined the rest of the world to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The day which is commemorated every March 8th was marked with celebrations in Kakamega, Narok and Trans Nzoia counties.

With this Year’s theme being “Inspire Inclusion”,  the community was urged to celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of women, reproductive health empowerment, gender equality, to celebrate acts of courage and determination made by ordinary women for their communities and the country at large, and inspire the next generation of women leaders.

In Kakamega County the event was held in Navakholo Sub County where WWANC took part in cleaning of the Sub County headquarters and planting trees within the locality.

Mr. Chrispinus Shamwama, WWANC Programs Manager, used the opportunity to address some of the barriers women encounter in undertaking their day to day activities and their full participation and inclusion in various aspects of life and provide solutions in handling such barriers.

He also urged women to be at the forefront of advocating and fighting for their rights.

“Over the years women have been disadvantaged in many circumstances of life. Today we have brought women together to sensitize them, advocate and create awareness around the issue of inclusivity in all aspects of leadership and areas where decisions are being made so that they are able to make decisions on issues that concern them,” he said.
